From the the main street the protestors headed towards the Egyptian border.
Hamas leader, Atallah Abu Al-Sabh in Rafah said "The real clash with the Israeli occupation is to break the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip." He added that Hamas is not in any way a threat to the Egyptian security.
He called on Egypt to intervene to break the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip, saying, "We are in danger. Jerusalem is in danger and Palestinian rights, land and the economy are also in danger."
Ashraf Abu Dayeh is in charge of mass action in the Hamas movement. In a telephone interview with Ma'an he said the demonstration was part of several activities that will be staged in order to end the siege.
He said the demonstration was a warning that the increased suffering of the people of Gaza would lead to a people's uprising.
A deputy in the Legislative Council, Yousif Al-Sharafi called on Egypt to re-open the Rafah crossing immediately.
"Hamas are positively and peacefully dealing with demands to lift the blockade and to bring about calm. This is not out of weakness but because Hamas care about the Palestinian people," he added.
He also warned that the Palestinian resistance factions, especially the Al-Qassam Brigades, were not like before and that any Israeli incursion into the Gaza Strip "will not be a picnic."
