Palestinian artist born
in Yafa, lives and works in Amman
The massacre at the port
of the City of Yafa was a devastating reality in Tammam Al Akhal’s
childhood, and later a driving force in her work. Her art focuses on
Palestine, its traditions, and its yearning for liberation. In
visual form, her work uses a method similar to that used by the
Mexican muralists, where scenes and symbols are combined to create a
narrative. Al Akhal paints the Arabaian horse in Don’t Forsake the
Steed as a call to embrace liberation- the horse being the symbol of
Palestinian struggle for freedom.
