Palestinian artist born in Al Quds, lives and works in New York
Samia A. Halaby has dedicated herself to the Palestinian cause in
both her art and activism. There is no stretcher and no rectangular
outline in her recent work. Like many abstractionists of the 20th
century. Halaby always questions the relationship of abstract space
to the picture plane as a window. In her painting Lake, Halaby
challenges the notion of the frame, and explores the rhythm and
motion of things. Paper shapes, canvas and tinted paper pulp are
collaged together making the work gain a sculptural quality.
