Palestinian artist born
in Breij refugee camp, lives and works in Ghazze
Mohammed Abu Sill is a
young artist whose time is spent between painting and giving art
lesson to children. Abu Sill is prolific and in a few years has
produced several series. One set deals with Palestinian’s love of
their land and the different abstracted figures and faces either in
groups or alone exploring identity through color and image. In his
most recent work, strong expressive images of cactus fill up his
canvas- the cactus plant being a familiar Palestinian symbol. In Abu
Sill’s work the cactus, which he paints is warm greens, ochre,
browns and reds, are sometimes passionate and raging, and other
times, stoic and resilient.
