Palestinian artist born
in Jabaliya refugee camp, lives and works in Ramallah
Tayseer Barakat is one of Palestine's most respected artists. In his
work the social life of the refugee camp is portrayed through
silhouettes of dramatic dark and light contrast. Various shapes
arranged in rows narrate a story. Barakat says, "the ancients
utilized rhythm as the infrastructure of the story. Barakat says,
row after row of pictorial narrative. The horizontal rows forn a
time-line for the events of life… The rhythm of the art is the
rhythm of life."
