Gates of Beauty
Middle Eastern Poetry
by Khaled H. Nusseibeh
|
The author describes himself as a Jordanian Palestinian, born in
Amman and originally from Jerusalem. In his
introduction, the author writes that the poetry of this book
does not deal with a single theme, but with many: politics, art,
nature and
religion. And that each of the one-page poems derives many of
its themes from Arabic culture and, owing to his living in the
West and his getting his education in Western Universities the
poetry, likewise draws heavily on ideas and styles
(linguistic and cultural) in Western culture. |
