When the Israeli army captured Haram al-Shariff (the Noble
Sanctuary), the third holiest shrine in Islam, on June 7, 1967, an
Israeli flag was hoisted-only briefly-on the Dome of the Rock. In
the same day the Chief Rabbi of the Israeli military, Shlomo Goren,
urged General Uzi Narkiss, the OC Central Command in the Israeli
army of occupation “ to put a hundred kilograms of explosives in the
Mosque of Omar [the Dome of the Rock, which the Israelis mistakenly
take it as Mosque of Omar] and that’s it, we’ll get rid of it once
and for all” according to Bernard Wasserstein’s Divided Jerusalem,
328).
The
Dome of the Rock had been built by the great Umayyad Caliph Abdul
Malik Ibn Marwan between A.D. 688 and 69. It is the oldest Muslim
monument surviving. Al Aksa, which is situated behind it, was built
by Al Walid Ibn Abdul Malik (A.D. 705-715). Both of them make up Al-Haram
Shariff Compound. On 637, the Arab Muslims liberated Jerusalem when
Caliph Omar received its key from Safronious, a clergy Christian.
Although the Dome of the Rock and Al Aksa Mosque survived the army
Rabbi’s deadly wish --and God willing would continue to be there, as
a great Minaret for Islam-- Israeli ill designs against it had not
cease. An Israeli attempt was made in the summer of 1969 to destroy
Al Aksa when a Australian Jew associated with fanatic Jewish groups
set fire to the historic pulpit of Saladin and the fire spread into
various parts of the Mosque. Had not been for the thousands of
Muslims who rushed spontaneously to the scene with buckets filled of
water Al Ask would have been turned to rubble.
Goren was in fact exposing while talking to Narkiss a dreadful black
hole in the Zionist mind seeking to build a Jewish state clear of
all Arab Palestinians and their Muslim sacred shrines.
Extremist Jewish groups like the Faithful of the Temple attempt
every year on the occasion of the destruction of the second Temple
by the Romans 2000 years ago to take over Haram al-Shariff, which
the Israelis consider it the site of the destroyed Temple Mount.
As
a matter of fact, Ariel Sharon and other ardent Israeli cabinet
members are bent on encouraging these dangerous Israeli groups
working vehemently for the destruction of the Muslim holy sites in
Jerusalem and elsewhere in historic Palestine. His provocative visit
to Al Haram joined by at least thousand policemen and soldiers
sparked the Palestinian Intifada on September 28, 2000.
Hundreds of mosques and other Muslim holy shrines have been
transformed by Jewish settlers to nightclubs, coffees, restaurants
and boutiques.
Israel’s unholy war against Islam continues unabated but by
different means. Israeli occupation troops are desecrating Al Aksa
Mosque, and preventing Muslim worshippers to pray in Al Aksa Mosque
for Friday noon’s prayer under the pretext of security reasons.
Footages of Muslim of Palestinian worshippers praying at the streets
of Jerusalem outside the compound every Friday under the shadow of
occupation troops’ gun-muzzles attest to Israel’s unholy war against
Islam. |
