Last month, interior
ministry demolished a mosque in a Bedouin village in Negev.
Residents of Til al Malaha built the mosque six months ago with NIS
100,000 of their own money because they didn’t have a place where to
pray. Because the village isn’t recognized by state authorities, no
construction is allowed in it and they mosque was declare illegal.
Talab A Sana, Til al Malah’s legislator said “ This is the first
incident of damage to a holy place and the dignity of Muslim
residents of the Negev.” A Sana condemned the action and added that
this is very severe and dangerous, and could lead to a public
uprising.”
Bedouin representatives said that they had intended to legally
challenge the demolition order, but that they did not have time to
submit an appeal because the inspectors arrived very early in the
morning.
Dr. Awad Abu Freikh, a member of the village council, said the
Bedouins have no other choice but to rebuild the mosque without a
permit. Village residents will rebuild the structure.
