The
first serious Zionist pronouncement and organized effort to occupy
Palestine and drive
native Palestinians out of it began with Theodore Herzl writing in
his diary (June 12,1895)
about occupying the land, expropriating the private property and
trying “to spirit the
penniless population across the border,” and the convening the first
Zionist Conference
(1897) at Basle, Switzerland.In his diary entry (October 15, 1898) Herzl wrote:

thou liest, to thee will I
give it and to thy seed, shall be as the dust of the earth shall
spread abroad to the west,
and to the east, and to the north, and to the south; and in thy seed
shall all the families of the
earth be blessed.”
The divine promises were made to Abraham and his descendents of
whom—according to
