Established in 1979, Palestine's premiere dance troupe El-Funoun is widely recognized for having played a leading role in reviving and reinvigorating Palestinian dance and music heritage. In its 2005 U.S. Tour, El-Funoun will perform in New York, Washington, DC and Detroit. The program includes El-Funoun's most acclaimed dances as well as several dances from its latest production "Haifa, Beirut & Beyond," a contemporary Palestinian dance saga of love, exile and resistance, inspired by the poignant poetry of Mahmoud Darwish. In original, creative and stirring choreographies, El-Funoun dances the tragedy of dispossession and oppression, as well as the dream of justice, peace and dignified living.
