  • The Meaning of Jerusalem to Islam  by Sami Abbadi

The Holy Qura'an and the Sunna; the two most important sources in Islam is the way to

understand the meaning of this Holy city (Jerusalem).

Jerusalem is considered to be a holy and a blessed place for Muslims. It was the first

Kiblah (direction) to pray before god ordered Muslims to pray toward the Holy Shrine of

Mecca. It is said that the prayers in Jerusalem specially in Al Aqsa Mosque are equal to

500 prayers.

During the era of Prophet Mohammad, many people went to Jerusalem because of its

sacred meaning and connection to the hearts of Muslims; fiqh scholars, caliphas, prophet

Mohammad's companions and friends and many others.

Jerusalem is very precious to every Muslim because they believe that Jerusalem and

the surrounding areas is a holy land not to be given to anyone because its part of the

 slamic faith.

Walking through the streets of Jerusalem gives you a pure feeling entering inside you

when you see all these holy sites and thinking of how people from all over the world cross

thousands of miles so as to come and visit this incredible and fascinating city in the entire

world.

By referring to the Holy Qura'an we find many verses about Islam and Muslims who

are considered to be the most honorable genre and who spread threw centuries the

message of Islam. But the subject does not stop here, on the contrary it develops many

inquiries. One of these of course is the most common one Jews are they titled or allowed

or have the right to defend Jerusalem? In the Holy Qura'an Jews are considered to be

cursed and condemned people, who changed and forged many times throughout the

history many things to achieve their goal and their purpose. For them they are the beloved

people chosen by god and no one in this entire universe is like them on the contrary the

others in their opinion are cursed.

So the inquiry continues, and of course the role of Islam and Muslims as responsible

to protect the legacy and the heritage of Jerusalem. That's why it is the duty of every

Muslim as said in the Holy Qura'an to defend religious places and to fight any attempt of

deforming and forgering the truth and facts we all know.
