At
4:00 pm on Saturday, September 3, settler boys in
Hebron began to throw stones at two international women who were
sitting on a small stoop playing with Palestinian children. One
woman was hit in the hand and thigh.
These assaults are occurring every Saturday, as settler boys throw
eggs and stones at Palestinian children on their way to school,
forcing internationals from a variety of human rights organizations
to escort the children and teachers.
This
Saturday, one of the settler women suggested that they begin soaking
rags in gasoline and throwing flaming rags at the children.
When
the police were called in, settlers rushed down from their apartment
and began throwing stones and large rocks at them. They also threw
pipes and boulders off the top of the apartment complex and onto the
houses below.
Two
hours later, after shining mirrors in the faces of the police and
military, they were finally convinced to go home.
Yesterday and today, the international women went to the police
station to file a complaint and hand over video tapes of the boys
who could be clearly identified throwing stones.
After the report was filed, one of the police said he could do
nothing about the attacks. "Listen, the last time I went up there,
they slit all four of my tires." Another police officer concurred
that the settlers were out of control. "They broke my windshield."
