Following Israel's brutal assault on the northern Gaza Strip
in the last week, there is "a critical shortage of electricity and
water in Beit Hanoun" and "a severe lack of drugs, food and milk for
children", the international humanitarian aid agency 'Save the
Children' has reported in a press release issued on 8 November.
Save the Children has prepared 200 "household kits", that
include food and hygiene materials, to deliver to needy families in
the area but they are still awaiting permission to enter the area.
The full press release is below:
Save the Children Alliance Emergency response in Beit Hanoun
Due to the urgency of the humanitarian situation in Beit
Hanoun during the intense week-long invasion by the Israeli
military, the Save the Children Alliance in Gaza, in coordination
with the ICRC and Red Crescent, delivered 3,600 liters of drinking
water to families in need on November 4. The Save the Children
Alliance has also prepared 200 household kits, including food,
hygiene materials and items for children, to be distributed to needy
families as soon as access is permitted to the area.
According to our field staff and local partners in Gaza,
there is a critical shortage of electricity and water in Beit Hanoun.
In addition, there is a severe lack of drugs, food and milk for
children. The extent of destruction is widespread, and includes
damage to water networks, the sewage system, homes and land.
The Save the Children Alliance will continue to maintain
contact with the World Health Organization and other partners in
Gaza, including community leaders and local doctors in Beit Hanoun,
to collect more information and to respond to other emergency needs
as possible.
